Kay and Annette have been certified organic since 2001, but farmed organically
prior to this date. Earthrise Farm is very diverse and integrated, focusing
on the idea of people and community, and providing its customers with a
large variety of vegetables, herbs, fruit, eggs and boilers. It is a learning
tool for all who visit or complete an internship. |

The Fisher-Merritts have 200 total acres certified organic since 1990.
They feel very fortunate that 2 of their sons want to farm with them. Farming
a huge variety of vegetables on 15 of the 200 acres of farm that has been
certified organic since 1990, the Fisher-Merritts feel that Community Supported
Agriculture (CSA) is the key to their farming success. Among their many
talents, they have experience with greenhouses, extended crop rotation,
and root cellaring. They feel a strong tie to the earth, and a responsibility
to care for her well. |

The Olunds farm 12,000 square feet of greenhouse space and 1 acre of flower
beds. They have been certified organic for 12 years and are located in superior
National Forest. They have more than 23 years of experience with solar greenhouse
production and cold climate growing. They specialize in fresh and dried
cut flowers, and greenhouse vegetable production. They market to local food
coops and restaurants. |

Greg Reynolds farms 30 organically certified acres (7.5 acres in vegetables,
5 acres in cover crops for seed, 7.5 acres in green manures, and 7.5 acres
in summer fallow). Greg works with a four-year rotation; one year is organic
vegetables. He farms using numerous weed control and fertility strategies
such as green manuring, cover cropping, composting, manuring, general and
row crop cultivation, and hand-weeding. Greg sells most of his vegetables
to cooperatives and restaurants. He also has experience with selling through
a vegetable stand and a CSA. He is a Sustianable Farming Association member,
and a former Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture Board member.
Greg prefers to answer questions regarding vegetables, rotations, and marketing
of vegetables. |
